The 50th Meeting of the GST Council was held on July 11, 2023 in New Delhi, under the chairpersonship of the Union Finance & Corporate Affairs Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman.
As per the recommendations made by the Group of Ministers (GoM) regarding the implementation of the E-way bill requirement for the movement of gold and precious stones under Chapter 71, the GST Council has proposed the insertion of Rule 138F in both the CGST Rules, 2017, and the SGST Rules, 2017. This recommendation allows the states that desire to mandate the generation of e-way bills for the intra-state movement of gold and precious stones within their respective jurisdictions to do so.
