Background:
Earlier, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade vide Notification No. 20/2015-2020 dated August 24, 2021 exempted the import of 12 lakh metric ton of crushed and de-oiled GM soya cake (Non-living organism only) under ITC HS codes 23040020 and 23040030 (“subject goods”) from the condition that, subject goods can be imported only with approval of the Genetic Engineering Approval Committee (“GEAC”).
Such exemption is available only till October 31, 2021 and that too only from Nhava Sheva (INNSA1) port, LCS Petrapole (INPTPB), Mumbai Sea Port (INBOM1), Tuticorin Sea Port (INTUT1), Vishakhapatnam Sea Port (INVTZ1), Ghojadanga LCS (INGJXB), Kolkata (INCCU1).
Notification:
Now, Vide Notification No. 36/2015-2020 dated October 08, 2021 Ranaghat Railway Station (INRNG2) has also been notified for the purpose of import of subject goods without the applicability of condition w.r.t approval of GEAC.
