GST panel appeals for tribunal bench

A committee of tax professionals and traders on Goods and Services Tax on Tuesday urged state government to constitute GST Appellate Tribunal in Indore.

A group of tax consultants and traders has constituted a GST Action Committee and submitted a memorandum to chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in Bhopal demanding the state government to send a proposal to Centre to set up a bench of the tribunal in Indore.

The tribunal is the second forum of appeal, where orders of the first appellate authority and revisional authority will be challenged. In absence of the tribunal, taxpayers have to file writ petitions in high court or have to pay the disputed GST demands under protest.

GST Action Committee general secretary said, “Indore is a hub for trade and business in the state. We have high court bench and the head office of the state’s GST department in the city. There are all reasons for setting up the tribunal in Indore.”

General secretary said, “Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has assured us to take the matter forward with the central government to form the tribunal in Indore.”
