A fake GST inspector was arrested from Kalyanpur area of the city on Saturday. The miscreant had go to survey a restaurant in front of IIT-Kanpur posing as a GST inspector.
On suspicion, the restaurant operator caught him and handed him to the police. The police recovered fake documents of Income Tax department from him. A case has been registered against him.
Kalyanpur police station in-charge Dhananjay Pandey said that the fake inspector caught has been identified Mohit Gupta, a resident of Anand Nagar Rawatpur. On the complaint of restaurant operator Rameshwar, an FIR has been registered against Anand in the section of cheating and extortion.
