A team of state GST officials raided the residence and establishment of perfume trader Sanjay Gupta in Mohalla Kachahri Tola in Kannauj district on Thursday on inputs that his two firms were involved in tax evasion. The team has started the investigation of the account books of the firms.
A 12-member team led by Harilal Prajapati, joint commissioner of Uttar Pradesh State GST department, raided Gupta’s place in Kachhari Tola and scrutinized the documents in his factory and office for several hours.
All throughout the raid, a heavy deployment of the police force was made around the residence and establishment of the trader. To recall, the Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI), an investigation agency under the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), prior to state assembly elections had carried out large-scale raids in Kanpur and Kannauj and arrested perfume trader Peeyush Jain and seized over Rs 197 crore cash apart from 26 kg gold and huge quantity of sandalwood oil.
