Finance minister KN Balagopal stated that the central government has cut short Rs 332 crores from Kerala’s GST shares for the month of November. The minister claimed that this has further worsened the economic crisis in the state.
Kerala was supposed to receive a total of Rs 1,450 crores from the centre by the end of November. But on November 29, the state government received a letter stating that Rs 332 crores has been deducted from its GST shares. Notably, similar letters were sent to other states as well. However, the state government has replied to the centre asking the officials not to impose such deductions.
The GST money in discussion here is levied on those products that are sold in Kerala but manufactured outside the state. The minister lamented that untimely actions of the union government are burdening the state. KN Balagopal said that the state was bound to receive a total of Rs 57,000 crores from the centre in various regards.
