A total of 16 ceramic unit owners in Morbi were booked on Monday for allegedly evading Goods and Services Tax (GST) worth Rs 17.76 crore. According to police, the accused allegedly floated bogus firms, opened their email accounts, availed GST numbers after uploading photographs and documents of the firms and sold ceramic tiles worth Rs 98 crore in the past nine months for which they did not pay the GST.
“The accused have been booked for allegedly fabricating bogus documents, opening bogus email accounts, cheating the government and hatching conspiracy of the fraud,” said Vinod Makwana, state GST commissioner, Rajkot.
