Kerala Calamity Cess deferred to July 1, 2019

The government has decided to postpone the collection of calamity cess to July 1, instead of the earlier planned date of June 1. The move is in view of the government plan to seek more clarifications from the GST Council on the collection of the cess. Many traders had requested the government that they need more time to collect the cess since tax will have to be levied on the cess. This would lead to a severe price rise.

The GST Council had earlier given sanction to the state to collect the cess for two years. The state government is hoping to collect Rs 100 crore from this. Meanwhile, the KPCC has decided to postpone all the protests against collecting the calamity cess in the state. The KPCC had alleged that the collection of cess would lead to an extra burden on the common man.
