Carpet Export Promotion Council (CEPC) has demanded the government to make arrangements for early clearance of pending Goods and Services Tax (GST) and Duty drawback (DBK) claims. During a meeting with Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, on Tuesday, Siddh Nath Singh, Chairman, CEPC said, ‘In spite of repeated assurances members are not getting the payments of their pending DBK and GST claims.”
In a written note to KNN India, Singh also informed that he took up the following issues with the Minister such as Interest subvention to Small Exporters registered as MSME. ”Although the RBI vide notification dated May 13th, extends the scheme up to March 31 but bankers are not granting them 20% extra limit as announced by the government to the exporters,” he added.
Citing that duty is very low on machine-made carpets that are being imported from Belgium, Turkey and China, the chairman requested Minister to increase the Import Duty on it. Singh further said that Due to the COVID-19 scenario our major market i.e. the US and Europe is badly affected and it will take at least 6-9 months to re-start the export.
”We wish to explore the domestic market to save the livelihood of weavers/ artisans and to save the industry in the hour of crises,” he concluded. Dr. Anup Wadhawan, IAS, Commerce Secretary, Amit Yadav, DGFT and other senior officials were also present in the meeting.
