Centre gives Rs 1,051 crore less for GST loss compensation

The central government has given Rs 1,051 crore less compensation to the Gujarat government for its GST losses, the government informed in the assembly on Thursday. In a written response to a question by Congress MLA Imran Khedawala, finance minister Nitin Patel said the state government was supposed to receive Rs 11,474 crore as GST loss compensation between February 1, 2018 and January 31, 2019.

However, the state received Rs 11,202.05 crore for this period from the central government. Similarly, the state government was supposed to receive Rs 14,451.59 crore for the period between February 1, 2019 and January 31, 2020, but it actually got Rs 13,663.20 crore as GST loss compensation during this period. Patel said that the state government has written to the Union finance secretary and Union finance minister respectively, seeking the remaining amount.
