Lucknow, Jun 4 (UNI) The Group of Ministers(GOM) constituted by the GST Council of Ministers has deferred its decision in Mumbai on Sunday to decide on the imposition of the cess on sugar at the rate of Rs 3 per kg over and above the 5 per cent Goods and Services Tax on the Commodity.
The matter would discussed against in the next GOM meeting, date for which is being fixed.
Uttar Pradesh Finance Minister Rajesh Agarwal has attending the Meeting in Mumbai as a member of the GOM. UP govt. is pushing the case for the implementation of the cess on sugar to bail out the sugar industry in UP, reeling under the impact of the mounting arrears to the cane growers.
Joint Commissioner (Law) of the State Commercial Taxes Sanjay Pandey said here on Monday that the Matter was discussed in the GOM but it remained inconclusive.
