Hyderabad Zone (covering entire State of Telangana) has topped national charts in terms of the GST refund achieving 81 per cent in terms of number of applications for which the sanction order (provisional or final) has been issued and 86 per cent in terms of amount of sanctioned applications for which sanction order has been issued up to May 11, 2018.
Hyderabad is followed by Mumbai with 79 per cent sanctioned applications and about 85 per cent in terms of sanctioned amount.
Bankey Behari Agrawal, Chief Commissioner, GST & Customs, Hyderabad Zone, said, “These refunds relate to input credit that is due or surplus deposit made by the taxpayer or deposits were made under the wrong head. As per the data available with the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), Hyderabad Zone has topped in the nation in terms of GST refunds.”
To speed up efforts with the refunding process, the Central and State GST department is observing May 31-June 14 period as a special fortnight for disposal of refunds that are pending across zones in the country including the Hyderabad Zone. Hyderabad Zone covers 24 GST Kendras (GSKs). The departments have also launched a toll free helpline 18005995399 since November 2017 and a dedicated email id for different commissionerates.
Hyderabad Zone has about 3.2 lakh taxpayers and of them there are 60,000 composition dealers.
Agrawal said, “There needs to be an improvement in the overall compliance in terms of filing GST returns and the department is stepping up enforcement measures. We have already dealt with a dozen cases involving Rs 27 crore pending dues, and have recovered Rs 20 crore (including a film production company upto Rs 11 crore). All the assessees are being reached and any deficiencies are being followed up. We are not going to be silent witnesses of any violations in compliance.”
Within Telangana, 3,188 outreach programmes had been conducted so far, almost accounting for one-third of what is conducted in India. The department is keen to complete the refunds in the next 15 days.
