LG promulgates Puducherry GST Ordinance

Lt Governor Kiran Bedi on Monday promulgated the Puducherry Goods and Service Tax (Amendment) ordinance, in exercise of powers conferred upon her by clause (1) of Article 239B of the constitution. According to a Raj Nivas release, since, the Legislative assembly is not in session, the Council of Ministers had earlier resolved to get the ordinance promulgated. The approval of the Central government and instructions of the President have been obtained for promulgation of the ordinance by the Administrator, the release said.

The Ordinance will remain in force for a period of six months or till an appropriate bill is passed by the Legislative assembly whichever is early. In tune with the recommendations of the 35th meeting of the GST Council held on June 21, 2019, the Central government had already amended the Central GST Law with effect from August 1, 2019. The Ordinance promulgated is to amend the UT’s GST law with effect from January 1, 2020, the release added.
