A workshop on GST annual return filing was held recently in the premises of the Rourkela Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI), organized jointly by the GST and Central Excise, Rourkela Commissionerate and the RCCI. Chief Commissioner of GST , Central Excise and Customs, Bhubaneswar Zone, Naresh Penumaka, joined as the chief guest on the occasion while Commissioner of GST and Central Excise, Rourkela, Vijay Risi, Joint Commissioner, CGST Rourkela, Debjyoti Chakravarty, Joint Commissioner of State Tax Debabrata Dash and DeputyCommissioner of State Tax Sudhansu Dhal attended as guests. More than 200 taxpayers attended the workshop including members of the Rourkela Tax Bar Association represented by president KK Panda and the assistant Commissioners of CGST divisions at Rourkela, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Angul and Keonjhar. At the outset, president of RCCI Pravin Garg welcomed Chief Commissioner Penumaka to the workshop and said that the workshop will help to resolve many issues of the taxpayers by and large.
Taxation Secretary of RCCI Niraj Agarwal presented a memorandum on the difficulties faced by the trade-in filing GST annual return, which was suitably clarified by the departmental officers. Agarwal in his memorandum requested the department to extend the annual GST return filing date to March 2020 in view of the recent flood situation in State. In his address, the Chief Commissioner stated that there should not be any difficulties on the part of the taxpayers in filing annual GST return by August 31, 2019, as extended by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC). He expected that the extended timeline would provide a big relief to the taxpayers to understand the issues and the Government to run an effective awareness campaign and resolve the open points. The Government has taken all steps to provide assistance to the genuine taxpayers through field offices and the GST Seva Kendras functioning in all offices. The taxpayers should contact the departmental authorities to solve any problems faced by them. He encouraged the taxpayers to file the GST annual return in time and cooperate with the initiatives taken by the Government to simplify the tax administration. He admitted that for the first time annual compliances are new and many points are not too well understood even by many large taxpayers. Commissioner of GST and Central Excise, Rourkela Risi sought cooperation from the taxpayers in filing annual GST return in time and assured all sorts of assistance from the department.
